Fórnea in Alcaria

Fórnea is an impressive natural amphitheater, located in the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park, in Portugal. Approximately 500 meters in diameter, it forms a unique landscape, sculpted by erosion over the centuries.

After periods of rain, a waterfall appears, making the scenery even more magical. The trail there is relatively easy and crosses a lush green landscape, dotted with vast fields of olive trees that, in the summer, are filled with olives. It is common to see locals harvesting, and anyone who wants to help is always welcome!

The region has several trails, from flat dirt paths to more demanding routes along steep slopes. It is a perfect destination for hiking and a true connection with nature.

Here, the sky transforms in an instant—it often starts out cloudy and gray, only to open up into a day of radiant sunshine.

After the tour, a stop at the local tavern near the road where you park is essential.
